Posted on 7th March 2020 at 22:11
COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect the lungs and airways. It's caused by a virus called coronavirus.
The symptoms of coronavirus are:
a cough
a high temperature
shortness of breath
The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu. We are advising you to rearrange your appointment if you are unwell or have any of these symptoms or have returned from a high risk area.
We have had a few mums to be asking about Coronavirus.
The information is emerging and day by day we learn more. So do discuss with your doctors if you have any specific concerns.
In order to limit the risk of infection, we would advise you not to attend an appointment if you have a cough, high temperature and shortness of breath and adhere to the NHS advice below:
The UK NHS advice is:
Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
Always wash your hands when you get home or into work
Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
Put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
If you have recently arrived from a high risk area’s please follow the NHS advise and contact NHS 111 Coronavirus advice line.
